My roommate, my friend.

A Letter To The Roommate Who Became A Friend
Jenelle Ball

Dear Roommate,

Moving to a brand new place is an emotional experience. With having to find new friends and adjust to a new lifestyle, it's enough to really stress someone out. You and I know this feeling very well.

For the first few weeks of school, we clung to each other and got really close. We both were a bit apprehensive toward each other at first, but it didn't take long before we discovered how similar we were and became great friends.

You helped me feel happy and included when I was the most vulnerable and scared I ever would be. From nights out to our long and emotional conversations, we created some amazing memories I will never forget.

Time went on and we started spending more time with other friends. Eventually, it got to the point where we only talked at the end of the day when we got back to our dorm room. Our conversations went from deep and silly, to about cleaning and organizing our room (which, let's be real, we never actually do). I really started to miss our adventures together.

I was so happy when we started to hang out more again. I love going on our roomie "dates" out to dinner or watching a movie together. It feels so good knowing we can spend time with our other friends and still have time for one another.

Roommate, I'm sorry if you ever felt like I didn't like you. I'm sorry if you thought I didn't want you as a friend because that was never true. You are an amazing person and I'm so happy I get to spend my first year of college with you. I couldn't imagine a better and more understanding person to begin this journey with!

You have a gigantic and empathetic heart. There have been so many times when you've noticed that I'm upset about something and you go out of your way to make me feel better. I appreciate that more than you realize. I try my hardest to reciprocate that to you.

I admire your unique sense of creativity and your outlook on life. You constantly have me thinking about things on a deeper level. Even simple things have a complex meaning to you, and I think that's beautiful. I also adore looking at your photography, reading your writing, and watching your videos. With these traits, you will go far. I can't wait to see where life takes you.

I've never met someone who thinks human flaws are as beautiful as you do. Thanks to you, a pimple doesn't make me feel as ugly as it used to. I feel more confident going without makeup and I think everyone should feel that way too. We are all real people and we are all beautiful for that, especially you.

Roommate, you are a wonderful person for so many reasons and I'm so happy to call you my friend. Having you in my life has made it so much better and I can't wait for more memories we will share together.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
