People often complain about parents as a nuisance. Either they won’t let you jump off a cliff or hang out with that boy that is so cool. However, as we grow older we see our parents less as our villains and more as people. My father has stood by me, whatever my choices are. Therefore, in so many words, thanks for not letting me jump off a cliff, Dad.
My family loves traditions. It is through these traditions that we bond. My father has created an importance for traditions like barbeques and new year’s eve parties. When it comes times for the holidays, I look forward to these traditions I’ve grown to cherish. When you are away for so long, it is nice to come back to something familiar and cozy.
My father and I differ in views. He knows this. I know this. Everyone knows this. However, he still values my opinion. As I’ve grown older, my father has supplied me with a valuable opinion, which is his. His opinion comes from years of hard work, family, and love. I have academics and spunk on my side, while he has years of dealing with my sisters and I. His views make me see that two differing opinions can coexist.
You see those mugs that say “World’s Best Dad”, but I really feel like I have mine. In my world, he is the best dad. In my world of crazy, he is the rock that I lean on. Through our differing opinions and traditions, I have grown to see how invaluable a father is. That, dad, is what it is.
