When I walked onto my college campus as a freshman last fall, I was nervous. I didn’t think I would make any friends, I just knew all my classes would be impossibly hard, and I knew that everything that was familiar to me would soon be whisked away. But there was one thing that would remain constant—my faith that God.
As I started my freshman year, I was met with challenges. It was hard to make friends and find my place, but I knew that if I didn’t accomplish anything else, I at least needed to stay firm in my faith. So I looked for ways to grow in fellowship with other Christians on campus. I found Campus Crusade, which is a co-ed group of Christians who hang out and have Bible study, I found local churches that offered Bible studies, and I found a Christian sorority that I absolutely loved. I saw that God was calling me to get involved with the Christian sorority, and I am still super involved today (shout out to Eta Sig).
Freshman year had some ups and downs, but I was able to rely on God. I was able to meet awesome Christian students who helped me grow in my faith. But this letter isn’t about me, it’s about the class of 2019. This letter is for all you freshmen who are worried about how this year will go, and who are concerned about God’s role in your life. Let me tell you one extremely important thing: trust in Him and you will feel the weight of anxiety lifted from your shoulders.
Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Matthew 6:26 says “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”
Philippians 4:6 says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
So for those of you freshmen who are worried about what group you will fit into, how you will do academically, or how God will work in your life this year, do not worry. God is constant in this changing season you’re going through. Seek God this year and don’t be afraid to walk in His light.
