A Letter To My Best Friend

Dear Astraea,

I can not find words that are strong enough to express how much you mean to me and how much I cherish all the things you have showed me throughout the years. You are my dearest friend, the person I trust with my heart and my soul. I remember the very first day we met, all the way back in the sixth grade. The first time I heard your beautiful singing voice during Mr. McCollumn's choir class, I knew that we were going to be incredible friends. All throughout middle school and high school, we definitely had our ups and downs. There were many people that walked into our lives who only wanted to break us apart, but we knew that we could withstand anything and anyone that tried to get in the way.

As I think back on the many years we've known each other, I can envision our highest of highs and our lowest of lows. From our endless sleepovers and many laughs, to breakups and heartbreaks, we've pretty much experienced it all. I especially remember the night you left for college: our two hour long crying session because we were finally going to be apart from each other after seven years of seeing each other almost every single day. We knew it would be tough, and it definitely was for the first few months, but I believe that being away at college has made us even closer than we have ever been before. We can go days, even weeks, without messaging each other, but when we do finally talk it's like we never stopped talking in the first place.

I know college has been rough for the both of us, but I also know for a fact that you are going to become an amazing Astronomer some day. I can't express how incredibly proud I am of you. You graduated second in your class AND attend the Florida Institute of Technology. You're in Florida discovering amazing new astronomical advances and I knew from the very start that you could do it once you put your mind to it. I'm not going to lie, being this far from you is incredibly tough sometimes. There have been multiple times where I've needed a shoulder to cry on and I've prayed to God that you were here to be that comfort, but I know deep down that I'll see you soon and that you're doing incredible things while you're away.

I've met a lot of people in my life time, but no one specifically like you. I knew from the start that there was something really special about you. You've touched my life from the moment I met you and I will never let that go. I look up to you because you are strong and caring and beautiful. You are and always will be an inspiration in my life.

Keep powering through school and know that I will forever be here for you whenever you need me. Although we are away from each other, I will never leave your side. You will always be my BFFLADWJEMCAAQ, even though everyone else has left us throughout the years. Even though you're 550 miles away, you will always be my number one, my ride-or-die. I'll see you really soon and remember: may the force be with you while you're in Florida!

Your favorite puddin' cup,

Jaz

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
