In a world so driven by chaos and violence, it is understandable as to why people feel responsible for defending and protecting our country. Although it is the right thing to do, and extremely admirable, it is not easy to see loved ones leave to make a difference in the world. One of my best friends has made the courageous decision to join the Navy and use his two hands to defend our country. I am so unbelievably proud of him, and I admire him for his decision. Although I have admiration for him, I am very sad to see him go, and there are a few things I would like him to know before he leaves for boot camp.
You are my best friend.
I will never forget freshman year when we first met. You had this attention-grabbing personality that everyone wished to be friends with. You were always cracking jokes and making the people new to school feel as though they have been there for years. You were one of the most welcoming upperclassmen I could have only imagined meeting. You have always been warm and loving toward the people you choose to surround yourself with. I am so proud of the person you are and I am so blessed to consider you one of my best friends.
You inspire me.
You inspire me to do what is best for me, despite others' opinions. I know there were times where you questioned whether or not this is what you wanted to do, and may have even doubted it. Deep down you knew that this is what you should do and what you wanted to do and you went for it. I will forever admire you for that.
I am going to miss you… A lot.
I am going to miss not having you down the street from me. I am going to miss you coming over and playing Domino’s. I am going to miss having random FaceTime conversations at midnight. I am mostly just going to miss not having you around the way that I do now.
I love you.
You are my best friend. You will forever be my best friend and you forever have a special place in my heart. No matter where this crazy world takes us, I know you will always be there for me, even if you are in a different country.
Thank you.
Thank you for always putting up with my crazy. Thank you for countless laughs. Thank you for being the best friend a girl could ask for. You have made such an impact on my life and I am so blessed to have you in it. Like I said earlier, I am so proud of the person you are. I know you are going to make such an impact in this world and I cannot wait to see all the great things you accomplish in the future. Thank you, and thank you to countless others, for choosing to serve our country.
