A Letter to My Best Friend As I Leave For College

The thought of being only a few hours away from you is an absolute nightmare… well, it seems silly, but here we are. I leave soon, ya know? I feel like I shouldn’t be this upset to say goodbye because let's face it we will still text each other every day and send weird snapchats. Yet, I’m sitting here crushed at the thought of leaving you. I wanted to write this to say thank you. Thank you for being my best friend in my last year of high school.

It’s still funny to think that a year ago is when we became friends and now we are pretty much inseparable. My mom even jokes with me that we can’t live without the other because let’s face this reality too: we are always there for each other and we sure as hell won’t leave the other alone. So, thank you for that as well. You made me attached to someone that wasn’t family, a huge step for me, as my mom says. All because you made sure my high butt made it to cheerleading and that I ate, that was only a year ago. Now, here we are, standing together sad that I am leaving.

I want to say thank you, over a million times to you, for everything honestly. Thank you for being my friend most of all. No matter how annoying I am towards you, you still love me. I feel like every friendship is going through this at the moment. All of us are sitting here worried about the friendships we have made if we could possibly lose because let’s face it friendships don’t last forever. Today take the time to say “I love you” to your best friend because it might not be goodbye, but it is a farewell for a while. Take a moment to remember that one weird moment you have with each other and remind them of it. Look at the funny photo you have saved of them, you know which one I am speaking of Cassidy. Friendship is a beautiful thing. Being friends with someone through deaths, a disability, and an unfortunate diagnosis, a friendship becomes much closer than ever thought it could before. So farewell my friend until we see each other in a few weeks, or next weekend because hey let's get pizza. Also, as you say, "hey I get the college experience through Miranda without actually learning or paying money."

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
