Dear Coffee,

Man. I could say a latté. You are of such sentimental value to me, by my side for years, burning my tongue since the third grade because I was drinking coffee before it was cool. You have always encouraged me to take life one cup at a time. Even when I am depresso, you encourage me to get back to my daily grind. So I need to espresso my gratitude to you.

Here are a few, just a few times in particular, I want to thank you for when you had my back through the light and the dark.

  1. When you turned me back into a human being after 10 hours of work
  2. When you helped me ace that physics final in high school
  3. When you sat with me all night while I finished that darn education project
  4. Every morning when you never fail to perk me up and make me excited and ready for the day
  5. Those times when you were the perfect secret ingredient to my baking
  6. For all of those times you were the third wheel on my dates. You never once complained, and you helped keep conversation lively
  7. For the numerous times you kept me company driving to and from college
  8. (And kept me awake)
  9. For the times when you patiently sat with me and watched the rain
  10. For the times you kept me warm when I was shivering
  11. When you let me hide my face behind you when I was embarrassed in the midst of conversation
  12. For being the model of many of my photo shoots
  13. For being patient when I was young and didn’t know how to react to you…and frankly didn’t even like you
  14. For being a familiar face when I am in an unfamiliar place
  15. For embracing the seasons with so many flavors, hot or cold
  16. For being the main décor in my dorm room
  17. For you
  18. Because I couldn’t imagine life without you

You mean the world to me, I’ll see you in the morning.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
