"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters" Colossians 3:23.
This bible verse is one of my favorites because it describes what our lives should look like when we are truly giving our best to Christ. If I were to rephrase this verse, I would say something like, "we were put on this earth to thrive, not just survive." Working at everything you do with ALL of your heart looks a lot different than just doing the bare minimum to get by and brings about drastically different results. There are so many times I have been tempted to just take the easy way out, but in the end I've only hurt myself and dug a hole that could have easily been avoided with a little bit of grit and hard work. Simply surviving this life we've been given is such a waste in God's eyes. He has made us to be bold and courageous, strong and independent, and able to achieve any goals we might set our minds to. He has equipped us with the Holy Spirit inside of us. How can that not motivate you to work hard and succeed in this life, to thrive?
Of course, not everyone gets excited about studying for a test, or some don't enjoy working out or exercising, and others don't find it particularly fun to do small things like eat a balanced and healthy diet. But these small things can be used for God's glory if you work at them with all of your heart, and who doesn't want to do well on their tests and be fit enough to live an active lifestyle?
The last part of this verse tells us we are working for the Lord, not for human masters. This is great news because it means we don't have to worry about what others will say about us, we are working for an audience of ONE!!! That simple truth is refreshing in a world that's full of comparison and obsessed with people-pleasing.
The point that I'm trying to get across is that our time here on this earth is limited and I don't know about you, but I don't want to waste it. I want to do everything to the best of my ability and put every ounce of energy I have into whatever direction life takes me. Whatever direction God takes you in this life, chase it with excitement and enthusiasm because if God has a hand in it, I promise it's going to be exciting and leave you more satisfied than you ever thought possible.
