Someone told me the other day that I was only thinking about the “here and now”, and that I am not thinking about the future.
This particular piece of advice has been nagging me ever since.
Granted, this particular someone does not know me very well. We have only met a handful of times and our main form of communication has been via text. If you are a reader of my articles you know my stance on using text messaging as a main source for communication, so I won’t even go into that.
Playing Devil’s Advocate, I think the point that I’m still thinking about what someone said is keeping me in the past and damaging my present and future. Because of this, I’m going to lay it all out on the table right now.
I know this person didn’t mean for this statement to stick with me and I’m sure this person didn’t think it would bother me enough to write about it either, but this is beside the point.
The point is, that “someone” was right. Maybe not in that context, but in the general sense yes, maybe I am a little too much “in-the-present” and maybe not enough “in-the-future”. In order to be a well rounded person we have to be expert multi-taskers. We have to be a little in the present and a little in the future pretty much every day of our lives. With the occasional reminiscing on the old times with good company.
Let’s think about the future for a minute though.
Hear me out with this one.
The future does not really exist. I mean that in a way that this idea of what the future entails is nothing but an idea. It does not have matter therefore it does not exist. The future is merely a time and place. A time that will eventually come at any place you happen to be.
That’s all there is to it.
That’s all there is that needs to be said about “thinking for the future.”
My question for those people is, “why?” why do I need to think about a time and place? Why do I need to try and plan out what I will be doing and at what place I will be doing these things, and at what age I will accomplish them? Because I have news for people that are trying to plan out their entire future.
You can’t.
I’m a believer in reaching for the stars and never giving up and everything, but trying to plan your entire future will be impossible. That is, unless you want to live a pretty standard and predictable lifestyle, then by all means plan away!
However, I also believe that if you live entirely in the “here and now” then you won’t turn out all that bad either. I mean think about it, if you don’t think too much and you just slow down, take a deep breath and enjoy the ride then I can promise that your so called “future” couldn’t possibly be dim.
It is the people that sit inside their dark rooms all day listening to sad music and feeding off their own negative thoughts that end up dying in the same small town he/she grew up in. It’s sad, but in a lot of cases, true.
I wasn’t sent here to tell anyone what to do, but I do believe I was sent here to enlighten people on a few things and this is one of them. What you think, you manifest and then you inevitably become. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it a million times more. I’m a firm believer in what thoughts can create and destroy because I’ve seen them do both.
Be a creator. Be an opportunist that doesn’t care about whether the glass is half empty or half full. Just drink the damn water and move on with the rest of your day!
