This week I would love to list the top 5 local artists as I see it for this month. Why for this month, you may ask? That is because new talent is coming out of nowhere every day it seems like. Augusta, Georgia is really a great place for music it just doesn't get the support that it needs to have a thriving music scene. Thriving, as in a scene in which artists are able to grow and support themselves and their families off of their music. Lets look at it this way, if a flower in a field is growing naturally without any support it might reach a place where it becomes stagnant and complacent and not be able to grow anymore. Where as a flower that has been replanted from it's original pot and provided with support such as fertilizer, daily watering, and plenty of sunlight in a protected manner, will continue to grow. Not only will the second plant continue to grow but it might also give birth to other plants. My hopes for this piece is to inspire the community to inspire us [Artists]. So, lets cut the jibber-jabber here are you Top 5 local artists as seen by Kendall Levesque at this time.
.) Jaycie and the Beards: This three piece band just makes you feel at home. Their sound can make anyone feel at ease and welcome. It's Singer/Songwriter with a little southern zest.

.) Doug Oxford: Some may say that his styling lives in obscurity, but to them I'd like to ask; do you prefer originality or music that has been repeated with the same boring theme, song after song? Not only is he a great singer/songwriter, but he is also an amazing person and friend.

.) Vilai Harrington: While he has moved onto a different area I still consider him local. Through the last couple of years I have looked at him as sort of a mentor. His music while keeping its originality, just has something that seems to be classic. His folk styling is truly a breath of fresh air in an area currently dominated by country/pop.

.) "Stoney" Cannon: Having deep roots in hair metal and classic rock, Stoney is truly "the last of a diving breed." His songs contain that same something that came along with the 80's, that can warm the heart. Not only a great songwriter but he is also a great patron of the local music scene is his own deserved right.

.) Vicky Grady: Last but not least this talented lady is another soft breeze to the community. The variety that she brings to our scene is interesting. Let's be honest with ourselves, who doesn't love a lady with an accent? Here musical perspective is definitely a contribution she can can be proud of.
