The day is almost here to vote for the next President of the United States – sadly. This entire election process has been one for the books, but not for the best reasons. America is divided between two individuals whose personalities seem to outweigh their political appeal to the public. There’s Republican Donald Trump: the businessman known for his great wealth and prosperous companies. On the other end is Democrat Hillary Clinton: the senator, who was once the first lady, with longstanding political experience. On the outside, these candidates don’t seem too bad. But if I’m honest, I really wouldn’t choose either one.
Each candidate has different views politically. You probably agree with the views of whichever candidate you choose, as an election would normally go. We won’t get into that since we’d be here for hours; we all have different views of our own as well. However, after looking at all of the political facts and watching the debates, perhaps we should just put them to the side for a moment. Obviously, where each candidate stands on political issues is important, but the person running our country should also be a good one – a personable and kind individual.
Let’s look at Donald Trump. What’s funny is, I would have never thought Trump would even be considered as a potential Presidential candidate. The day I heard his name appear onto the candidate list, I was shocked. At first, it didn’t seem to be the worst idea because of his success and standing in American business. Perhaps he was more intelligent and politically savvy than I realized as a child. That immediately changed when I heard him speak, and all of the memories from The Apprentice came back – yikes, that guy could be President.
Trump is new to the political game, at least from what we know. It’s obvious, however, that he isn’t quite sure how to address the public in a pleasing manner. His jokes are usually demeaning. Oh, and you can’t forget how frequently he sexually harasses women as a whole. Truly, he doesn’t really think before he speaks. He also is involved in many scandals, whether related to business or sex. I struggle with voting for Trump because he just doesn’t seem to be a good guy. He shows little respect for minority groups and women, and seems to enjoy complete control. Quite frankly, who wants a man like this to run their country? This
Now let’s take a look at Hillary Clinton. Clinton is the wife of former President Bill Clinton – we all know how that went. Clinton has a lot of political experience, and is therefore a much better public speaker than Trump. However, Clinton isn’t known to have the best personality either. Clinton has also been involved in many scandals. The most important in regards to this election, is the email scandal. Hillary broke the law by using a private email server to communicate, for which she should be punished. May argue that this is election is rigged in her favor. However, Clinton has continued to lie and omit information about these emails, even after they’ve been proven to be true. This isn’t the only time she has lied. Clinton is not an open person, and that’s frightening. Lastly, many have said that Clinton is insincere. This is clear when she stretches the truth, causing many people to lose trust in her. Let’s be honest, if we can’t trust the President, what will happen to our country?
This week, we vote for one of these individuals to be our President. Don’t get me wrong, this is just my opinion based on what I’ve seen. Maybe the media has exaggerated the above. Perhaps these candidates would run our country in a positive way. I’m just shocked that the two candidates are two individuals whose personalities may be too strong for the White House. These candidates have a long history of scandal and insincerity towards political opponents and/or even the public. I’ve chosen to vote for the individual I believe is the most competent to handle public and political affairs. Sadly, it’s also the person I believe is least likely to mess it up – the key word is least. Nevertheless, this is an important election, so let’s get everyone out there on election day.
