I am a woman, and I can open my own doors. I can also have a man hold open the door for me. I can also open the door for a man, another woman, or anyone. Great, glad we got that established.
Now let's talk about something not everyone understands, feminism. Ah yes, the dreaded F-word. But really, we just need to talk about what it actually means to be a feminist because it seems that some people, (cough) Tomi Lahren (cough), just don't know. The definition of feminism is: the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. That's right, equality. There are even some "feminists" who have it wrong. So we're actually going to talk about a few things here, such as the difference between a feminist and a feminatzi, why we still need feminism, and why you should you be a feminist.
A feminatzi is someone who believes women are superior to men, which is obviously incorrect because we just said feminism was about equality. These are the people who straight up hate men. Don't ever say feminists hate men because we do not; they do. These are what feminists often get mistaken for and the first thing that pops into a lot of people's heads when they hear "feminist." Wow, I'm saying that word a lot, sorry.
So I know what you're thinking: why do we still need feminism? I mean, we have equal rights, what else is there to fight for?
Well, yes, we do have equal rights, in America. There are millions of women in third world countries who are sold into sex slavery before they are 18, can't go to school, forced to get married and bear children at 13; it's pretty bad. We continue the fight for all women, not just the white ones in America. And while we have equal rights, we don't have equal treatment. There is still an unjust dress code in schools, a wage gap, sexualization of females, and rape culture.
Here is why you should be a feminist. At the end of the day, we are all human. There is no gender that is superior. We are all human, and if the gender inequality doesn't personally affect you, it affects someone else. Show human kindness, and join the fight.
