Christians, Let's Talk About Donald Trump

Look at who the man truly is and decide for yourself whether or not he's who you have you told.

Christians, Let's Talk About Donald Trump

It's time we sat down and had a talk. It's something I've been hesitant to say for a long time, but it's a topic I think a lot of people need to hear about. It's time to talk about Donald Trump and Christianity. It's time to talk about the behavior he exhibits and why we need to look at him with an unbiased eye as much as we can. This article isn't to bash anyone. I just want to show you guys that, as a Christian, there are many reasons why Trump just isn't our guy. I know that there are many people in my life who love the man and claim that he is just the type of man they want running our country. I would say almost all of these same people are Christians, as well.

Let's look at his emotions and what he says. Trump is very quick to speak on emotion. He doesn't use critical thinking to mull over his words before he says them and that has lead to some questionable things he has said. He is very quick to put up defenses (even over the smallest things) and usually will lie to make himself feel or look better. Now, emoting is not a bad thing at all. We all feel these emotions, but he handles them in a way that makes him seem like a child. He doesn't think before he speaks. Things he says, such as, “laziness is a trait in blacks" to put down the black American population. Or, “there was blood coming out of her... whatever," invalidating women. Think about when he mocked Serge Kovaleski, a disabled reporter. Think about all the sexual harassment accusations he's faced. Think about how he claims that he “saved Christianity."

Donald Trump is, frankly, against the people.

He is against LGBTQ+, women, people of color, scientists, the poor, and, in some cases, Christians themselves (“They're all hustlers"), not to mention people of all other religions. Now, of course, what he wants is support. He wants to win this political race like he did last time, but he knows he has to win over the majority of The People. When it comes to Christians, there is one thing that I believe supporters miss out on: he doesn't want to do anything positive for Christianity. He wants Christians to support him in just so that he can win. I don't know if you have taken a look at our country lately, but Christianity isn't the only religion here. As a Christian myself, of course it would be a blessing to me to see everyone love God. However, I'm smart enough to know that we can't have everybody. The best we can do is love one another. That's how we show God to others.

That being said, there is supposed to be a separation of church and state in the United States.

You may look at me like I'm crazy, but I don't think religion has a place in politics. There's nothing wrong with mentioning your religion while campaigning, but what many people don't think of is that not everyone is religious, a Christian, and that, again, religion is not meant to be in politics. Religion cannot be a reason to make laws and lead a country.

Let's talk some more about how Trump has been anything but a Godly man. He doesn't know peace. Matthew 5:9 says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." Trump is allowing and creating what may as well be civil war (ie. sending the military to take care of peaceful protests). When speaking about getting rid of the terrorist group ISIS, he says he would “bomb the sh*t out of them." (Not that ISIS isn't terrible, but come on, man.) Proverbs 14:31 says, “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God." But I believe what Trump said was, “If they can stay so poor for so many generations... How smart can they be? They're morons." He seems to not know about the wealth inequality of our nation.

Colossians 3:12 states, "Therefore, as God's chosen people, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience." According to Trump's hatefulness toward immigrants, disrespect to other celebrities and politicians, and public cruelty of his exes, he doesn't hold much compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, or patience. Not to mention how he downplayed hundreds of thousands of citizens dying from COVID-19, saying we shouldn't be afraid of this virus. Then, when he himself contracted it, got state of the art care, knowing others couldn't afford or receive the care he did.

"Christianity will have power," he said. But he totally missed the point of Christianity. We don't want power. We want God. We want everlasting life. We want to love others the way God loves us. Power was never the goal of a Christian. The goals of Christians are to love others, show the kindness, love, and forgiveness of God. We know we aren't perfect, but we do our best to make sure our actions and words are for the good of the Kingdom. We all sin and make mistakes, but at the end of the day, God's love is the best thing we can hope for.

If you choose to be a Christian as well as be a supporter of Donald Trump, I shall assume you don't pay much attention to who Trump is. The best I can do is pray for you and urge you to look for God in the upcoming election. WWJD?

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
