I think that most of America, or maybe even the world, can agree that 2016 has been a year for the books. There were so many memorable and historical moments that I think occurred this year. Some good and some bad.
However, it’s sometimes hard to remember during those moments that are stressful and difficult to see all the wonderful things in life we should be thankful for. I know that is something this year that I have pushed myself to focus on. To always remember that everything happens for a reason, and there is always something to be thankful for. In doing so, I have been happier and have learned how to deal with stressful or anxious situations a lot better than in the past. (Of course, after calling my mom and venting to her for half an hour.)
This Thanksgiving, I hope everyone gets the chance to reflect on all the things they are thankful for. I think that it’s important to remember those things when everything else in life seems to get the best of you. We should be thankful that we live in a country where we have freedoms and rights that others do not. We should be thankful that we get the chance of higher education and get to pursue the jobs and careers we dream about. We should be thankful for the friends and family who support us on those difficult or stressful journeys.
I read a post on Twitter the other day when Trump was elected the next president of the United States, and it was something that I thought was very positive in the light of all the craziness. It said, “Trump may be the next president, but God will always be king.” I think that is something that is important to remember and realize that there is always going to be something bigger and better in the road ahead, and that no matter where that road may lead you, God is already there waiting for you.
Like I had mentioned before, 2016 is definitely a year for the books. We lost many amazing people like Alan Rickman, Muhammed Ali and Christina Grimmie. There were countless shooting, riots and protests. However, there was also the 2016 Rio Olympics where the United States completely dominated. There were so many highlights and wonderful things that happened this year too. Of course, this is also the year Donald Trump was elected the next president, which I’m still unsure on how I feel about, but at least we live in a country where we get to the right to vote.
I am very thankful and blessed, and I hope this Thanksgiving everyone can take the time to really reflect on all the blessing in life and all the things we should be thankful for.
Happy Thanksgiving!
