Let's Take Halloween Back!

I don't know about you, but I am sick of seeing the same costumes year after year. I have no excitement for the holiday to come; it has become boring and dull. But I want to propose something to all people who feel the same way I do: let's take Halloween back!

Halloween.

A holiday that used to mean endless candy, face makeup, and awesome homemade costumes. We had zombies, princesses, ninjas, and more.

We would spend the night trick-or-treating with our best friends, all innocent fun. We would watch scary movies till 3 A.M., wondering how we were ever going to go to sleep, fearing the nightmares.

But soon enough, those movie-watching nights became drunken nights. They became a Domino's trip at 3 A.M., no candy in sight. People threw out their face makeup and switched them out for cat ears. Halloween lost meaning, its creativity. All we think about now is how to fit in and what is going to get us the most likes on Instagram.

We have become obsessed with what people are going to think of us. We don't want to be the only one to stand out and be different. But we forgot that's the point! Halloween was made for us to dress up, be weird, and let loose. It was supposed to be fun; it used to be. Now, all it consists of is pressure, to look the best, the hottest, and the most up-to-date.

I don't know about you, but I am sick of seeing the same costumes year after year. I have no excitement for the holiday to come; it has become boring and dull. But I want to propose something to all people who feel the same way I do.

Let's take Halloween back!

This year and all the years after, let's get excited to make our costumes, be silly, scary, funny, and bold. Let's forget about what people think; don't try to impress anyone but yourself. I want to see costumes that are going to make me laugh or frightened. I want to see creativity at its finest.

For long enough, we have been embarrassed to be different. Now, it is time to embrace that once again.

Take out your face makeup and paint away because this year, we are taking back the innocence, giving it a twist and serving looks.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
