This time of the year is a favorite of mine. Leaves are starting to change colors and covering the ground. It's chilly enough to cuddle into hoodies and blankets but not so cold to where your nose is frozen. And it's nearly Halloween! Pretty much the best time of the year. And one aspect of Halloween that still hasn't changed for me after nearly 22 years is how it makes me never want to grow up.
There is magic in staying young at heart. It creates a lightness that you can't ever lose. It's a happiness of never growing up. When we're young we dream about staying young and never having to grow up to be an adult. Well, sadly that's something that we just can 't change. But it doesn't mean we have to age our hearts.
And I'm not talking about staying immature in our thoughts or beliefs, rather finding pleasure in the simple things. Like new coloring books and crayons, or bubble bath beards (even for guys too). And even dressing up as a sheet ghost for Halloween even if you're nearly 35.
Acting like a child every now and then shouldn't be that much of a problem for anyone. It's simply remembering how we were when we were young, not a care in the world just amused by the different shapes in the clouds. It's simplicity at its finest. Nothing overcomplicated or overanalyzed, just life as it is. Nothing more than that.
But as we get older the simple things are harder to find and even harder to enjoy. Long gone are the days that all we had to worry about was whether that cloud looked like a rabbit or a dog. Now we worry about work, about classes, about money and about life. And I'm definitely not exempt from this. And I definitely, definitely think that we need to get back to this stat of mind.
Being able to focus on what is important in life but also being able to enjoy life in the simplest ways is something that I strive for and I think others should as well. Staying young at heart is something that would make life a far lot easier to handle.
Don't grow up. Don't let life take away the simple things from you. Enjoy each and every one of them as they come along. Let's stay young forever.
