It is now November and Christmas music has already begun to play on the radio, not consistently, but just enough to not let you forget that Christmas is coming. This is utterly insane. Christmas is still more than a month away and Halloween has practically just ended. Thanksgiving doesn’t deserve to be skipped. That would be like skipping dinner everyday and going right to breakfast the next morning.
Thanksgiving is the time for being grateful and appreciating all the blessings we are given in our lives, but let’s keep it real here; Thanksgiving is the one holiday where food is promised. As of the fall season mashed potatoes and gravy are officially acceptable to eat on a regular basis. Move over pumpkin spice because stuffing and squash are making their way into everyone’s hearts, and refrigerators. The endless amount of options for Thanksgiving are like presents even before Christmas.
Even turkey is like the Christmas tree sitting in the middle of your living where everyone knows the good presents are in the back, and who would want to skip that? Thanksgiving brings everyone together not because of what they get, or how they all stressed and spent their money on materialistic things, it’s about being grateful for the things we already have and for the amazing food everyone is about to share together.
So enjoy the four bowls of mashed potatoes you’re about to eat over the next two days, and don’t be ashamed of accidentally falling asleep on the couch next to a plate of stuffing and rolls drenched in gravy. That’s what Thanksgiving is all about, eating, sleeping and being grateful all while small children are running around your house screaming like banshees and your relatives contemplate getting more food or not. Thanksgiving is all up to you and if you feel the need to take a nap after the cranberry sauce may have not been so kind to your stomach that is perfectly acceptable. Thanksgiving is what you make of it and being fearless in knowing you are blessed with what you have and the people you are surrounded with, adds a little more sweetness to that pumpkin pie you through together the night before. Don’t forget that Thanksgiving is still a holiday too.
