Donald J. Trump's most well-known line for his presidential campaign was "Let's Make America Great Again." This has been one of the longest and most stressful elections and November 9, 2016 is a day to remember. November 8, 2016, was the first election for many people who turned 18 and could vote for the first time. Americans who were eligible to vote exercised their right, and no matter who they voted for, they still did. November 9, 2016 in the early hours of the morning, Donald J. Trump reached 270 electoral votes before Hillary Clinton, naming him as the 45th president of the United States.
One of the things about politics and elections that make this topic such a touchy one is that people fail to recognize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It is ridiculous to hate or attack somebody who votes for the opposite party. I chose to vote for Donald Trump, however, that does not make me a bad person. That also does not mean that I agree with ALL of his views because I don't. It simply just means that I agree with him and his views more than I did with Hillary. Vice versa is true for people who voted for Hillary and not Trump.
It is also important to note that everyone who is eligible to vote is 18 years of age or older. It's time to grow up. If you cannot have a civil conversation with someone who has opposing views as you, then do not have that conversation. It is rude to start talking about opinions you have, and immediately shoot down opinions of others. That's the thing about politics, though--everyone thinks they're right.
Another thing people fail to realize sometimes is how much worse the media makes candidates out to be. Both candidates are not perfect. They both have made mistakes, but so have you, and everyone else in this world. It is all part of being human. Different medias are biased toward each candidate, therefore us, as Americans will not truly know what Donald J. Trump as the 45th president is capable of until he actually gets into office.
It is an honor to live in the country of the United States for the freedom we have here. Do not threaten to leave, just because of the outcome. If you believe he is really such a terrible person, then go for it! Move away, but good luck.
As I have stated previously, this election was stressful and intense. Do not discredit relationships you have with people in your life because of who they chose. People can have opposing views and still be able to get along, it's called being an adult. It is not worth losing a relationship with a parent, friend, spouse, sibling, etc. over. This would not be helping the situation any, but making it worse. This is the time where we all need to come together to unify the country, not try to tear it apart even more.
When Donald J. Trump gives his victory speech he says that Hillary Clinton had congratulated us, as a country. If it was the opposite outcome, Trump probably would have done the same because it's respectful. However, he goes onto state, and I quote:
"I pledge to EVERY CITIZEN of our land that I will be president for all Americans. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past of which there were a few people, I am reaching out to you for your guidance and your help, so that we can work together and unify our great country".
He is not a bad person. He may have made mistakes, but he is now our 45th president of the United States of America. So, this I challenge you. If you have attacked anybody or hated somebody or discredited somebody for the way they voted, apologize. Apologize to them. No relationship is worth losing over this election. Now is the time that we need to come together and unify this country. As citizens of the United States, "Let's Make America Great Again".
