Due to the new push toward natural remedies thanks to doTERRA and other companies that have made essential oils readily available, I thought that it would be interesting to see what benefits I could be getting from a few herbs I keep in my kitchen cabinets. Basil, parsley, oregano, thyme and rosemary are a few of my favorites.
1. Basil
This little plant is able to do wonders for your body. Basil helps battle breakouts and acne. It is an excellent source of vitamin K, calcium, iron, and vitamin C. It wards off osteoporosis by strengthening bones. It also may be used to relieve nausea.
2. Parsley
Many health benefits have been attributed to eating this leafy green. Parsley has been shown to help reduce swelling in joints caused by arthritis. Some European countries use parsley as a medicine for diabetes. It has proven to lower blood sugar levels. It has been known to have anti-carcinogenic properties and have the ability to strengthen the immune system.
3. Oregano
This wonder plant does just about anything! It is useful in helping with common colds, muscle pain, acne, toothaches, bloating, headaches, heart conditions, allergies, fatigue, menstrual cramps and even repelling insects. Oil from oregano is often extracted and used in hand soaps as an antibacterial agent.
4. Thyme
It’s about thyme I get to this herb! (All right, I’ll stop). This herb is helpful for lowering high blood pressure. It is packed with vitamin C and vitamin A, so it is a HUGE immunity booster. Thyme also has aromatic and therapeutic purposes and it has shown to boost feelings of joy.
5. Rosemary
This tasty herb is not just good to flavor foods. Rosemary is also extremely beneficial for your health and well-being. Rosemary is helpful for acne and eczema and has been shown to aid in healing wounds and bruises more quickly. It also helps to eliminate dandruff and to strengthen and speed up hair growth, and it can help boost a weak immune system.
It is amazing to discover the abundant benefits herbs can offer while spicing up your meal! Next time you get to cooking with herbs, remember that you aren’t just making a tasty meal -- you are also making something bursting with health benefits.
