Let's Find The Butterflies

The world is a dark place, find what makes it brighter

Let's Find The Butterflies

Imagine standing in a field in the middle of the summer. It's hot, you're sweaty, and it hasn't rained in months. Looking around you at the crispy golden stalks of grass, flatted from your footsteps, all hints of green have long disappeared. The tree that once flourished now stands as the mere shadow of its once showy grandeur. Flies buzz around your ears and echo to you how many distractions this year has brought with it. It has become so easy to focus on the negatives, leaving us swishing hopelessly at the problem. This misery you see around you is only momentary. Even as long as the sun beats down and the hot wind races along chapped lips, there will be something beautiful among the mundane.

Look a little closer. Those grass blades? Beneath them is a whole new world that never slows down for the little things. Ants are bustling around underfoot, paying no mind to the heat or the cracks that stretch like canyons. They see only their goal and feel no anxiety with the obstacles ahead. Above you the sky glows in hues of blue that reminds you that you are alive. Look for those brief glimpses of possibility. Look around you and find the butterflies, look for them floating in the wind you've come to despise. Even in a world that hasn't seen rain, don't forget to search the sky for rainbows. All you need to do is find out what gives you a reason to run. Run until you find the rainbows and butterflies that make this cold world a little warmer. Because if you can see those positive parts of life, maybe you can be the one that changes someones life for the better by helping them see it too.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
