Let's Converse About Converse

The Classic Chuck All-Star

As many of my friends are aware, I have an inordinate amount of Converse sneakers. I wear them day in and day out, all the time; I have almost every color and in every style. I wear low tops, high tops, and even own a pair of Converse that zip up to the knee. Long story short, I own a lot of shoes, and most of them happen to be Converse. It has even come to a point where my mother, when I go to the mall with my friends, warns me not to come back with anymore shoes, specifically Converse, so that when I do buy more, I have to somehow sneak them into my room without her noticing.

Maybe this photo will help you understand when I say I have a lot of Converse. However, this photo was taken before I binged again and bought another 4 pairs. This photo was also taken before I was gifted 2 more pairs for my birthday.

This article isn't me telling the audience how great Converse are or how they can change your life, instead, it's just me telling you why I love them and why they're an all around perfect choice for anyone and everyone.

1. Style

The look of Converse, interestingly, hasn't changed since its original design was released in 1917. With 99 years of a simple design, they span across generations (my father wore them as a child) and will continue to be worn for many years to come. They transcend from parent to child, as they look great on my grandparents, better on my mom and dad, and even better on my and my friends. The classic look of white soles with a black band are known worldwide. The simple color contrast of white and black on a colored shoe give it a look of simplicity with a splash of color. They are also known by the easy-to-identify star logo; a great symbol to represent the brand, as they have been on top of "the most profitable shoe companies" list for years. Their branding has continued to rise for decades, especially after being bought by Nike in 2003. I personally love the style, not only because the look clean cut and neat with a canvas body and white laces, but also because they are comfortable and because they go great with every outfit.

2. Adaptability

As mentioned previously, Converse are the epitome of the perfect sneaker. They look nice, come in all colors and textures, and can even be customized to fit any personality. The best part about these sneakers is that they look great with athletic wear (meaning gym shorts and a baggy t-shirt), with jeans and a nice shirt, and they also look great with formal wear (some people have worn them in weddings).

Here are some examples:

In each of these photos the converse only add to the outfit and add a little flare to each situation. The Converse in the wedding add an aspect of color to a traditionally black and white event. They are a great everyday shoe for school, are a great alternative to heels and dress shoes, and are an all around acceptable choice. If celebrities can wear Converse on the red carpet, then I can wear them acceptably to school.

3. Price

Looking beyond the array of colors and the variety of heights and styles, Converse are also an incredibly fair price. Although the All Star Converse was originally $3.57 when first released, and have come to be between $40 and $55 today, they are still a more acceptable and competitive price than a pair of Vans ($65), Dr. Martens ($75-$250), or Nike Dunks ($120). Buying four pairs of All Star Converse are equal to that of buying one pair of Dr. Martens, an incredible bargain when considering that some sneaker brands go for more than $2000 and some dress shoes are priced at $5000 for designer labels.

In short, as I have been, and will continue to be a great customer of Converse, I would absolutely recommend, to anyone, the classic Chuck All-Star. As mentioned previously, Converse are comfortable, cheap, and an all around aesthetically pleasing product. As I sit here, writing this article, I can't help but think about every pair of Converse I own, and how, looking back now, I may or may not have a shoe addiction.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
