Let's Celebrate All Body Types, Not Just The One You Think Deserves Recognition

I'm not talking about just one body that gets hate, because we all do.

First off, before I begin, hi, you're beautiful, please keep that in mind.

Since the beginning of time, one body shape has been preferred over the rest and those without it are deemed as "not beautiful."

We currently live in the most celebratory time of people from all cultures, backgrounds, sexualities, and more, but we are still messing with this topic.

So why the hell are we still doing this in 2019?

The answer is who knows. Who knows why we have this made up rule. Who knows why we have a made-up description and a tiny box of what beauty standards can fit inside. Also, beauty standards? What does that even mean, truly?

Oh, and I'm not just talking about girls or about how just "curvier" bodies are getting hate. EVERYONE is.

A big trend on Twitter right now is for someone to post pictures of themselves and caption it something like, "Body-positive thread, respond with your pics below." In my eyes, this is very problematic because it usually is geared towards one body type.

It's time for this to end. Having a certain body shape shouldn't be a "trend" because it's not something that everyone could attain. It's not an article of clothing, it's a human being. We can't all go to the gym and become this tiny model or even someone with a perfect hourglass shape *cough* Kardashian body *cough.* We all have different genetics, chemical makeup, income levels, and ideas of what body shape would make us the happiest.

With that, achieve your health goals. Achieve your realistic goals. Don't think that you need to look a certain way because the media told you to. Or even because someone in your Instagram comments said so. It's all an opinion. And you are entitled to your own and can do what you want.

So let's stop the hate and body-shaming. The body shaming of "curvy" people, "skinny" people, and all of the above. I want you to truly hear me out when I say this: you are incredible, beautiful, and strong. Don't you dare let anyone tell you anything different.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
