Why You Need To Let Go

Letting go of yourself is never easy. Believing that someone else in this world could treasure your heart, and take care of it as you do seems impossible, that someone in this world could possibly understand your ambitions, your fears, dreams, understandings and misunderstands; it all seems almost as far-fetched as literally handing your heart over to someone. However, the inescapable desire to want to give yourself up to someone else never leaves. You can try to shake off the feeling and allow fear to corrode your mind, but nothing will ever erase the desire to be adored by another human being, and letting yourself go to love.

You will come across an exceptionally beautiful soul, and immediately you will be enthralled with the glory of their stature. Your mind will never stray from the thoughts of them, and even when thinking of something or someone else, you will find that that person will always create a gentle haze over every part of your mind. Every moment of your existence will be stemmed and hinged off the complete love of their spirit. Like a deer panting for water, your heart will long for them.

You will be captivated with every mannerism they have. Their eyes will seem deeper, more intricate and complicated than others. Their mindset will be like a labyrinth to you, unable to understand, but gladly content to be lost in. The way they brush their hair from their face in a swift solitary movement will be like a wave crashing upon you. You will notice the way they walk, how their hips sway and their feet twist to the side with each step. You will fall for the inflections in their voice that dance in your ears and the way sighs tend to slip from their mouth. The way their lips meet the coffee cup in the morning will send goosebumps down your arms, and their late night, scratchy voice will send shivers down your spine. Their smile, laugh, and subtle glances will become contagious and infect you with feelings you never thought you'd allow yourself to feel.

Your fears may come back, and you will ultimately find yourself questioning your feelings. You may find yourself wanting to run, but you will become caught between the things you are afraid of and things you desire to invest in. Memories may flood back in and consume you. You may have recollections of past lovers, past moments, and broken dreams that you may have once wanted to be a reality; however, even with being consumed with doubt, you cannot be pulled away from the new love you have found. You cannot be disheartened by the difficulties of past experiences. You must look towards the future.

You will look at them with such a beautiful passion and you will see them like no other human being. Even being surrounded by such an ugly world, you will come to find out, through that single person, that angelic human beings exist. That one person will make you feel as though sin does not exist. Being in that person's presence will cause you to be overcome with a feeling of security. Though you may have been left, bruised, and broken, you will suddenly feel on track. In becoming lost in that beautiful soul, you will be found.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
