Don't Fall For Those Diet Supplements, If You Let Your Body Do Its Thing You'll Be Just Fine

"Drink this detox and lose 15 pounds in three days!"

"Suppress your appetite with this drink!"

"Wear this wrap and shed inches instantly!"

We see ads like these everywhere. Why can't we just let our body do its thing?

I'll be honest, I've always struggled with accepting my body the way it is. I always find things about my physical appearance to criticize, and I always find something that I need to improve. But with that being said I still let my body do its thing, and I wish so many other people would too.

We all know the ads I mentioned. The ads that promise quick weight loss results and a trim figure. These ads are tempting and triggering at the same time. Have you ever seen a dramatic weight loss transformation and envied the body in the picture while criticizing your own self-image? Me too. We — females AND males — are constantly comparing ourselves.

But honestly, why do we need these weight loss products that promise quick results? Why can't we let our body do its thing?

The image of a healthy body isn't always a thin figure with ample muscle mass and the absence of fat.

I think the image of a healthy body should be somebody who simply loves themselves. Somebody who doesn't put themselves through expensive and faulty weight loss products. Someone who accepts that they are unique and shouldn't compare themselves to others.

Every body is different, and that's okay.

At one point I was tempted to try a weight loss product that promised quick fat burning at "a rate like never before." I thought that's what I needed; I thought that was what would help. That didn't help though, because I didn't try it.

Instead, I let my body do its thing.

I went to the gym on a regular basis and ate fresh, healthy foods. I didn't put foreign substances found in quick-fix weight loss supplements into my body. I didn't swallow a pill that promised to make me lose 15 pounds. I didn't drink a detox tea that kept me in the bathroom for days.

I let my body do its thing.

Hearing my shoes hit the pavement — or tread of a treadmill — fills me with so much confidence, which is something that a diet supplement could never do.

Losing weight is frustrating. It isn't easy. It takes time, determination, hard work, and a strong mentality. To be honest, at times, I don't have any of those. I'm short on time, have a wandering mind, and I doubt myself.

But that doesn't mean my body can't do its thing.

Your body doesn't need quick-fix weight loss solutions to lose weight. Your body needs you, and you need you. You have to want it for yourself. Exercise is healthy and boosts confidence. Exercise leaves you feeling refreshed and accomplished. Diet supplements don't.

Don't rely on expensive supplements that claim to give you a quick fix. Instead, rely on yourself. Challenge yourself to eat healthily and to exercise.

Let your body do its thing. It's okay if it takes some time. In the meantime, practice accepting you for you. You deserve it.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
