Young people all over the world are being discriminated. We are being segregated because of our age. Our thoughts are being shunned and our voices are being silenced because we are not older than 25. Maybe because we have not graduated college yet, maybe it’s because we don’t have a masters degree. I don’t know the real reason. I think it’s fear. I believe people who are older than college students are afraid of our generation. They are scared of what we can accomplish. The human race has many differences but the one characteristic we all have in common is the aging process, we all get older one day at a time. We were all young once so I don’t get the reasons for the hate that is being put upon young people who decide to get involved and share their voice.
The most powerful ability human beings can harness is the ability to think. To have the capability to acquire and process knowledge. The way to share that information is by writing or speaking out on what you may know. The worst thing one human being can do to another is take their voice away. That’s what makes us individuals. We all have our own thinking process with our own ideas and reasons. Everyone should be able to broadcast their ideas on any stage they want wherever they want. It shouldn’t matter if you’re 17 or 70, we all deserve the chance to be heard.
My generation doesn’t seem to have the issue of not getting involved. Millions of young adults are out in the world trying to make a difference. The problem lies within the elder population who forgot to turn up their hearing aids. They decided not to replace the batteries in their old age and continually refuse to listen to the younger generations. It’s understandable, we are a scary bunch.Young adults are being trained to take everyone else's jobs. We are the replacements, the subs, and the new employees coming into the workforce more ready than ever. That is a pretty hard pill to swallow for the older generations. Especially in an age where education is constantly evolving and becoming more advanced. The knowledge we are acquiring is setting us up for a brighter future. A future that not everyone is ready for, there are a lot of unknowns. But within the under answered questions lies the great opportunities for the ones to come.
Maybe it’s the fear of change that scares the older generations. Kids are frightening with all of our new ideas and crazy thoughts. Maybe that’s why people like to ignore our screams. We are the living future, we should be given the aux cord so we can blast our right to say what we believe in. It’s our right. We take rights away everyone everyday. We have been doing it for years and we have gotten pretty good at it. Though, we continue to segregate young people and no one is talking about it. Just because there isn’t a sign that says young people can’t speak here doesn’t mean it’s not happening. It’s written into our constitution. You have to be above the age of 35 to run this free world. Why? Why can’t a 28 year old be adequate for the job? What special event occurs at 35 that makes people now ready to take the oval office? These are all questions that seem to not have an answer.
I love the classic “that’s just the way it is.” Well, that is bullshit because if we kept saying that about women’s rights to vote or Jim Crow laws we would still be ruled by white, rich men who own land and our children would be going to schools for whites only. We have never been the country to sit back and do nothing. It’s time for us to do something. As the famous Kanye West once said, “listen to the kids.” We don’t just spill garbage out of our collegiate mouths consistently. Once in while our education plays apart in our rhetoric. We aren’t here to hurt anyone and we aren’t here to ruin society. We are here to bring change to this world. To better the children, to better tomorrow, and to build a future that everyone can play a part in.
