The people have voted, and the democracy has spoken: Donald Trump will be the 45th president of The United States of America. I am not going to sit here today and write about who I wanted because, frankly, it does not matter who I wanted because I could not vote anyway and the decision has already been set in stone. What I will do, however, is hopefully invoke optimism about the country's future because it pains me to see such a divided, hateful country at the current moment in time.

First off, our country will continue to thrive and be great no matter how well Donald Trump performs over the next four, or even eight years. Our country has suffered through horrific presidents in the past, such as Andrew Jackson and Jimmy Carter. And guess what? Our country is still great. Now with that being said, I am not concluding that Donald Trump will be a terrible president, but just in case he is, and all the outspoken Clinton supporters are correct, we have absolutely nothing to fear. Ultimately, our country is great because of its people, not necessarily its leader.

In addition, I can optimistic about the fact that President-Elect Donald Trump has the opportunity to make necessary changes that I believe all can agree on despite an individual's political affiliation. Since Donald Trump will be working with a Republican House of Representatives and Senate, he will be able to make changes that will aid this country with ease. Our country is ranked 30th in education: that needs to be mightily improved. Our country maintains one of the worst infrastructures across the board: that needs to be enhanced. Our country possesses around 11 million illegal immigrants: that needs to be changed. And with the Republican dominated government, I truly believe change will be made in these critical aspects that have degraded our country.

Finally, while I do not condone the terrible things Donald Trump has said and promoted in the past, but I am optimistic he will not say the same rash type of statements while he serves as our president. He will be vigoriously and routinely briefed by top politicians on how to avoid these impulsive outbursts of hatred, and he will adhere in order to be the best president possible. Because ultimately his goal is to be a good president, and even the best president. He wants this country to thrive and be the best, thus as its leader, he will try to be the best as well.

We need spread optimism around the country. We all want our country to succeed, so it baffles me as to why people hope Trump fails. These mass protests around the country are not achieving anything; Trump will be the president come January 20th. We need to embrace that. We need to unify the country and all yearn for Trump to succeed. Let us be optimistic and prove to the remainder of the world that we the people of the United States of America are great, and so is our country.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
