"Dear God, she prayed, 'let me be something every minute of every hour of my life.'" -Betty Smith, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Every now and then, I come across a deep quote that really hits me or inspires me somehow. This is one of those quotes. I came across it one night while sitting in class at 8:00 pm. I was really wishing that I was back at my apartment relaxing, until I read this quote.
This quote really hit me hard and it has been in the back of my mind since that night. Every now and then, when I come across an eye-opening quote like this one, it really makes me think. This quote made me realize that we are all "something." We are actually a lot of "somethings" when you really stop and think about it.
The beauty of it is, we can be something as simple or complex as we want to be. We can be any type of "something" that we could dream of being. Personally, I am a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a girlfriend. I am happy, young, ambitious, accomplished, motivated. I am a dreamer, a thinker, I am all kinds of things. With that being said, I will continue to add to this list of "somethings" over the course of my life.
What is on your list of "somethings"? You may be the CEO of a company, a volunteer, a teacher, a stay at home mom, a father, a brother, an uncle. The truth is, you can add to your list of "somethings" at any time that you want. You can be whatever you want, whenever you want. This is your life and you can write your story however you'd like. As a college student, I am still figuring out my story, and I am loving every step of the way.
No matter what is on your list of "somethings," I hope that you strive to be the best that you can be in all aspects of your life. I hope that you strive to be the best person that you can be. Be the best daughter, the best son, the best friend, the best role model. Be the best student, the best employee, the best coach that you possibly can be.
If you truly desire to add something to your list, I hope that you have the courage and drive to add it. I hope that you become all that you want to be. Life is short and I hope that you write your story to be everything that you desire it to be. Go out there and become every "something" that you wish to be.
I hope that you find you are many "somethings," both simple and complex, every minute of every hour of your life.
