Let It Go and Let It Be

These are the phrases that have been following my yoga classes around lately. I haven’t been able to find the words to end class any other way, but these words are always with me.

When you come to an easy seat in yoga, the yoga instructor tells you to relax your mind and do your best to let go of what it is that you are holding onto.

Let it go.

Let it be.

I try to live my entire life through these words, through these lyrics, which are my mantras. Daily affirmations that I never let leave my mind. They have brought so much to my life and helped me let go of a lot of extra negative energy that I did not need to be holding onto.

Think about it like this. Let it go. How can you apply let it go to your life?

In my world, let it go means letting go of the things I cannot control. Sometimes that means people, relationships, words, thoughts, or situations that I find myself in. Why should we hold onto these things that we cannot control?

I am all about making a difference and helping people find the good in their lives. But sometimes, we cannot control what is to come. We cannot always change things for the better. That is one of life’s most important lessons. No matter how much good we put into something, it may not turn out the way we want it to.

Letting go of the things we cannot control leads me to my next affirmation. Let it be.

Aside from the fact that I am a huge Beatles fan and I have these words tattooed on my side, let it be is another huge influence on my daily mental processes.

Let it be. How can you apply let it be to your life?

Let it be, to me, means letting things be. Just letting them be as they are. Similar to the way we let go of things we cannot control, we can let things be just the way they are. This is extremely important because we don’t always consider that we may not be “letting things be”.

All our lives we are told go out there, chase after your dreams, and get what you want out of life. I completely agree with this. I think life is what you make of it, and if you’re making it crappy for yourself than that’s all you will really ever get out of it. But if you’re doing your best to work hard, be kind, and be happy, then I think you are doing it right.

But there’s a difference between going after what you want and constantly trying to change things in your life. This gets exhausting and mentally draining. It’s hindering you more than you realize.

When your mind is feeling foggy and you are overwhelmed, I want you to consider these mantras: let it go and let it be.

And when the broken-hearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer
Let it be

For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer
Let it be

-- Let it be, The Beatles

10 Truths About Being In A Sorority

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
