Let Go And Let God

Yesterday night, it just hit me like a ton of bricks, except that instead of being hit with bricks I was hit with peace. I was hit with peace, because my mom made me finally see that the only way to beat life and its demons is to be still… let go… and let God. So in honor of my beautiful, wise mother, I am going to pass on the wisdom and revelation she gave to me to you guys.

Now before I break this down, I know a lot of people might wonder why I didn’t just seek revelation from the Bible. The Bible is where you find the true answer. Some people might say that my mom didn’t think of that on her own, she got that from Psalm 46:10. Well, I hate to break it to you guys, but God not only uses the Bible for ministering revelation, but he also uses the people around us. My spirituality is still maturing and progressing, and I have not fully read the Bible yet either. So for a still fresh, maturing Christian like myself, God will use the people around us that we seek for guidance also, to help further our spiritual knowledge and reliance on him.

So, here we go :

1. Be Still.

Life can literally have us running all over the place. With the demands of work, school, family and/or our significant others, I know that it’s hard to just be still. But you have to learn to just stop, and take a breather. Stop, and really notice your surroundings. Notice the beautiful skies, the green grass and the children’s laughter. Notice the awards you have already won that sit on your desk. Notice the present compliments and appreciation from the people who really matter. Most of all, notice the beautiful masterpiece that God allowed us to inhabit, Earth. Don’t let life just take you through the motions. Be still, and also reflect. Reflect on everything in your life and see if it really is doing you any positivity to you.

2. Let Go.

Let all of the negativity, the pain, the worry, the stress and every single thing or body that does not cause you happiness. I know it’s hard, but trust me when I tell you it’s worth it. It is impossible for us to function at our best if we let these things and/or people control us. We are human beings who are such meaning seekers that we end up digging a very deep hole for ourselves, because we are trying to find the solution to all of our problems. We always want to be the boss in our lives. But we need to let go of that authority, because that authority we think is so grand and pure is really nothing at all. There is someone who is the real boss in our lives. He is the one who has the say so, and he has the true power to take away all of our stressors. He is the one we call Father.

3. Let God.

Let God be the boss. I know for me this is one of things I really do struggle with. We like to have that sense of control, and just relinquishing that is really a tough thing to do. But trust me, when my mom finally made me realize what the benefits are with just totally trusting God I immediately surrendered it all to God. I read my bible, I prayed and I left it all in God’s hands. In just 24 hours, I already saw the difference it made. I have been blessed with an eased mind, a greater perspective on my life and having a tight security in God. I am free, and it feels great.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
