Let Go And Let Be: Why You Should Stop Living In The Past

The past is the past for a reason. This is why people need to let go and let it be -- if you live in the past you have no room to grow. The past is a place where you leave your mistakes, regrets, and failures. The present and future are the places we are given to learn from mistakes we have made in the past and open a new chapter in our life and start on a blank page. Your life is like a book; you are the only person in control of writing the pages and the chapters. It is up to you to see where your pages belong, and no one likes to reread the same page over again in a different chapter. Those books don't become best-sellers.

Therefore, you should never ever make the same mistake twice; you should never regret the same thing twice, and you should never fail at the same thing twice. You are the only person that is in the power of your present and of your future. You are the only person that is in the power of making sure you do not repeat the past. I do not enjoy hearing people who say "the past has a tendency to repeat itself." Actually, no, it doesn't – not when you are in control. If you're not in control, then you have never even left the past completely.

For example, holding a grudge or reminding yourself of a mistake constantly will keep eating at you and eating at you till it finally destroys you, till you completely lose yourself. It will make you fear growing and will make facing the present, or going to the future, so hard.

However, if you can let go of those things and become aware of what is happening right in front of you, then you have such a great life to look forward to. There is so much room for opportunity, but if you keep certain things in your mind and heart, you block certain areas of your mind from learning and growing. Letting go of something doesn't mean you need to completely forget it; it just means you need to forget how it affected you. Letting it go just means that you will no longer let that certain person or certain situation define who you are.

Letting go makes you a happier person, and it also makes you a better person. It makes you want to experience other things, other people, other situations. It's letting go of toxic energy that has been eating at you. This idea of leaving the past in the past not only benefits you. but benefits the people around you. Since letting go makes you experience things and learn things, it can influence other people, and that is the reason why letting go and letting be makes you a better person in this world.

Do it for yourself, for the people who you surround yourself with, because people don't want to be around someone who is sad constantly or in a slump. People who are constantly thinking of heartbreaking situations are being held back from enjoying what life is giving them. Those people are stuck in the past and being stuck in the past makes you lose everything that's happening right in front of you. You are not able to see what is happening right in front of you; it blurs your vision from the other good things in the world, so let go and let be.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
