One of my favorite things about working with shelter dogs and adopting a dog from the shelter is learning from them. Here are some of the lessons I have learned.
1. Be thankful.
I like to think shelter dogs tend to be more grateful to humans because it is often that we save them. Give thanks to those who surround you, whether they are your parents or friends. They will appreciate it greatly.
2. Smile often.
A dog's smile always makes my day better. A smile can brighten someone's day, so don't be afraid to spread the positivity.
3. Embrace the outdoors.
Sometimes I get very overwhelmed while being inside all day in school. The dogs inspire me to love the outdoors and want to conserve them.
4. Forgive.
Some dogs that come to the shelter often come from bad situations. Whether they were used in dog fighting, from puppy mills, or physically abused by humans, they still are capable of showing love toward humans. Forgiveness is sometimes hard, but it is worth it.
5. Love unconditionally.
