Coming into college throws so many curve balls. I've gone through many unexpected changes and made unforgettable memories that are helping me find myself. I had expectations of what college would be, but everything didn't turn out exactly how I planned.
Being an adult is hard.
When I was younger, I was always in a hurry to grow up. To live life on my own and make up my own rules for myself. But, the truth is, I’d give anything to go back to being a kid. Being independent definitely has its pros, but it’s not easy.
Family time is sacred and special.
I never thought that being away from my family so often would make me miss them unconditionally. Everyone has such a busy schedule now, and getting us all together doesn’t happen that often. Anytime I get to spend moments with my loved ones are always cherished.
Everyone isn’t always what they seem to be.
Coming to freshman year is so exciting because majority of the people are so welcoming and nice. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again -- it’s okay if you don’t stay friends with everyone you meet your freshman year of college. As time goes on, you realize you just don’t click with everyone and your personalities might end up clashing. People come and people go, and it’s perfectly okay.
Staying active is a must.
It’s very easy to lose yourself between the stress of school, unhealthy food surrounding you, the parties, and lack of sleep. Trust me, the freshman 15 is a real thing. The best way to avoid it is just to keep exercising, even if you do have a busy schedule. Besides, it’s a great stress-reliever!
College is for finding a job, not a party.
It’s very easy to get caught up in all the parties and hanging out during college. There’s a lot of pressure that this is the only time to go wild in your lifetime and every night has to be a new adventure before you get old and boring. I’m not saying not to go out and live it up, but just remember why you’re at college and spending thousands on. College is the start to your life, and you don’t want to end up with a 1.8 GPA and on a hunt for a job when it’s all over. Have fun, but make sure your priorities are straight also.
