5 Lessons I Learned From "Pride and Prejudice"

I have fallen in love with many movies ranging from comedies to romantic films. One particular movie that I can proudly quote and am too embarrassed to reveal how many times I’ve watched it would be “Pride and Prejudice”. As there have been multiple adaptations, I should say my favorite is the 2005 version with Keira Knightley. There’s just something about it that has had such power to captivate my attention time after time. The movie seems to give me new lessons to learn from, as I have grown older watching it. I figured why not share them with you all and show you why I have fallen in love with Pride and Prejudice.

(side note: I am listening to the soundtrack as I write this to put me in the mood, so feel free to let the sweet sounds of the ending credits flow from your laptop’s speakers)

1. Be true to yourself, no matter the circumstances

Our dear sassy Elizabeth Bennet. This firecracker has always stayed true to herself. The wit that flows through her mouth truly inspires me to be quicker on my feet. No matter who tested her whether it be Mr. Darcy or everyone's favorite, Catherine Bingley, she stays true to her witty self. I've learned to remind myself "WWEBD?" -- What would Elizabeth Bennet Do? Always stay classy - always.

2. Don't fall for the first guy who professes his love to you

For those who are familiar with the 2005 version, I'm sure you can remember the very awkward encounter after Mr. Darcy professes his love for Lizzie. Take a note out of her book, do not let the phrase woo you over and stand up for your family as well as yourself -- no matter how charming Matthew Macfadyen looks while telling you he loves you, most ardently.

3. Put your nose in a book and shut out the world.

I've always been the girl with my head in the clouds and my nose in a book. As I started college and my priorities started to shift, I was kindly reminded every time I watched the movie of a very important lesson. The lesson popped up within the first scene, that I need to pick up my roots and get back to reading. Books can take you to a completely new world and are a safe haven for many. So get to reading!

4. It's okay to have an off day.

The circumstances may be different, in Lizzie's case she had a long period of "sulking" after finding out that her dear friend is now married to the "unbearable" Mr. Collins. Nevertheless it is PERFECTLY okay to have your off moments! We've seen Lizzie be sassy, energetic, caring and now she shows that she has real emotions. I've learned to watch some netflix, eat ice cream and sleep on it when I feel a little off in the emotions department. It's quite alright to have a day where you belong in a sad music video.

5. Love should be challenging

One of the best examples would be Elizabeth and Darcy's relationship. Through all the trial and tribulations, no matter the banter they eventually figure out how to love each other. It's passionate. It's full of chivalry. It's perfection because it is beyond dysfunctional. Lizzie can't figure out how to let him in and Darcy can't get the proper words out, but they make it work. Considering the first impression we have of Darcy is his "barely tolerable" comment made towards Lizzie, they SURE have come a long way.

It's official - this movie has bewitched me, body and soul.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
