As my first semester as a college student comes to a close, something very new and very frightening is occurring. My usually sleepy, laid-back campus is in full melt-down mode all thanks to (you guessed it) finals week. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, I had heard plenty of horror stories, but let me tell you, absolutely nothing could have prepared me for this.

However, I've learned a few things along the way that helped me survive.

1. Expect At Least 10 Melt-Downs, Be Prepared

You're are going to have moments where you want to chuck your laptop across the room or throw everything off your desk in a fit of rage. Don't do that. Whenever you feel yourself start to panic, take a step back. Go for a walk, take a shower, make some food. Take a moment to center yourself and remember what's most important, your sanity.

2. Naps Are Your Best Friend

Because, honestly, you're not going to get a full nights sleep. Sometimes all-nighters are inevitable. Sleep is a necessity for doing well on exams, so make sure you find some time during the day for a 20 minute power nap, or three.

3. Drink Lots of Water

Water solves all ailments. Trust me. It's like magic. Keep a cold bottle on your desk at all times. Skip the energy drinks and sodas this week, you'll thank me later!

4. Make a Pumped Up Playlist

My personal favorite playlist consists of epic film scores. Nothing makes you want to finish a project, like the theme from Star Wars. Instrumental music is the way to go whenever you're studying. There are thousands of options for instrumental music, listening to battle songs just makes it a little more fun.

5. Plan Out What You're Going to do Every Day

When it's all written out in front of you and you can actually see it, you'll do it. No more forgotten assignments! Plan what you're going to do and when you're going to do it every single day.Make sure you also schedule in some down time!

6. Keep Your Work Space Clean

If it wouldn't be good enough for Monica, it shouldn't be good enough for you. A clean space will help you feel less cluttered and clear your mind.

7. Don't Eat a Ton of Junk Food

You're going to have enough headaches, no need for a sugar induced one. Skip the McDonalds and grab some Panera, eat popcorn instead of potato chips, drinkwaterinstead of soda. It's the little things.

8. The Answer Should Always Be "Study"

Whatever the question is, now you know the answer. "You want to hang out?""Want to have a movie night?" "Want to sell your soul to Satan?" No, you have to study.

9. Surround Yourself With Motivated People

Get yourself a study group. Get yourself a kick a**study group. You're going to need all the help and motivation you can get. Nothing like a friend working hard right next to you to make you get your butt into gear.

10. Put your phone down

Just do it.

11. You Will Survive

I promise. You're going to do great!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
