Why You Can Never Truly Outgrow Disney

Lessons Learned From Disney

Disney has been around for the longest time and you can never truly outgrow it. Disneyland, Walt Disney World, the Disney stores in the malls, Disney movies, etc. will always be a favorite for any generation. Some people think that you can outgrow Disney, and I am here to tell you how you don't outgrow it through the original Disney princesses. Each princess teaches us valuable life lessons that can be useful at any stage in your life. Here they are:

1. Ariel, T"he Little Mermaid"

Ariel teaches us to not be afraid to follow your dreams. Having the courage to follow your dreams is a skill everyone needs in life. We often let fear control us when we need to be in control of our fears.

2. Aurora, "Sleeping Beauty"

Aurora teaches us to live in the present. Life can change in a blink of an eye and it's important to not dwell on the past. You never know when you'll be put under a sleeping spell, so live each day to the fullest.

3. Belle, "Beauty and the Beast"

Belle teaches us to not judge a book by its cover. Inner beauty is more important than outer beauty, which is something a lot of us forget. We judge people based on their appearance before we actually get to know them. We need to learn not to take things at face value and take time to truly get to know a person before we make judgements or assume things about them.

4. Cinderella, "Cinderella"

Cinderella teaches us to always be kind. A little kindness can go a long way, and Cinderella is kind to everyone and everything. Whether she's talking to her mice friends or doing chores for her evil stepmother, she is always kind. It can be really hard to remain kind to someone who walks all over you and hurts you, but Cinderella shows us that it is possible to be kind and that it is what you should do.

5. Jasmine, "Aladdin"

Jasmine teaches us that life is too short to settle. If you have a passion or desire, then follow it. Jasmine fell in love with Aladdin even though he was not meant for her. She didn't let anything stop her.

6. Mulan, "Mulan"

Mulan teaches us to not let others define us and to stand up for what you believe in. She went to war despite the fact that she is a woman. She broke the stereotypes and followed her heart. She didn't let other people stop her. She let nothing get in her way.

7. Pocahontas, "Pocahontas"

Pocahontas teaches us that you need to embrace change. Life is always changing and you can either adapt or get left behind. Pocahontas embraces change and is not steady like the river.

Disney teaches us many life lessons. You don't need to be a child in order to take something away from a Disney movie. You can never outgrow Disney and you can see that through the original Disney princesses. What have you learned from Disney?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
