WARNING: IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2, THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS A LOT OF SPOILERS! It is a pretty well-known fact that media can often teach us lessons that will lead to the betterment of ourselves. The Guardians of the Galaxy film is not exempt from this fact. Here are 12 of the lessons I learned from watching this AMAZING MOVIE.
1. Not everyone will find you perfect
Mantis is an amazing creature that I think is quite beautiful (not in a dating sense, but in a general sense). Drax, on the other hand, finds her quite repulsive. Does Mantis let this dull her? No, and neither should you.
2. Sometimes your biological parents are jerks
Not everyone is blessed with an amazing set of parents. Sometimes you only have one, and sometimes you may not even have that. But it's okay to not like them (even hate them) because you don't owe them jack. In the words of Yondu, "He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn't your daddy."
3. Step/Adoptive/Foster parents can be your real parents
Sharing DNA doesn't make them your parents, love does.
4. Don't be afraid to express your feelings
Pent up emotions (whether pleasant or negative) are never a good idea.
5. There is always another side to the story
Find the truth before jumping to conclusions
6. Don't let your grudges consume you
Do things because they make you better, not because they harm other people.
7. Don't be afraid of giving people second chances
They may surprise you. Now if it is something completely reprehensible then ignore this, but if you believe that they are truly sincere in their apology don't be afraid to give them a chance.
8. Don't assume everyone will hurt you because of your past
This is something I need help with myself. It is hard to trust people after you have been screwed over so many times in your past, but you have to try if you are ever going to prove yourself wrong.
9. No matter how bad you think you are, you can change
Like the old saying, "Once you hit rock bottom, there is nowhere to go but up."
10. Don't push people away to avoid being hurt
If they haven't given you a reason to believe they will hurt you, then give them a chance. If you automatically wall yourself off from people then you can never grow socially.
11. They say you can't choose family but you can
A family isn't just about sharing DNA, but about a bond that lets you both know that you would do anything for that person.
