mil·len·nial
miˈlenēəl/
noun
plural noun: millennials
- a person reaching young adulthood in the early 21st century.
If you were born any time between 1982 and 2002 you are a millennial. That means everyone as young as 14 and as old as 35. If you're like me and you're stuck within this generation you're sick and tired of the stigma that goes along with us millennials, but if you're like me you're also tired of the headache millennials. You know the type: they complain about everything, think the world owes them something, offended by everything? Those millennials are this generations headache. For millennials young and old it's time to agree to disagree.
We are the first generation to grow up pretty much engulfed in the internet and technology. The internet is the constant and we millennials are the variables in the science experiment of life. The internet has given all us variables the opportunity to have an opinion, or better yet, an opinion we think matters in the big picture. This creates the entitlement we have all seen as hundreds of comments and Facebook posts are put out continuously proclaiming their opinions and bashing those who don't agree. News flash: not everything has to be your way. I know that we were raised by parents that spoiled us and gave us participation trophies but we need too suck it up and quit bashing people who don't agree with us.
Everyone comes from different backgrounds and a variety of religions and belief systems. The amount of culture and walks of life in this big world is astonishing and incredible. No one is going to care about the exact same things or rank the world's problems in the same order of terribleness and importance as another. We grow up dealing with our own problems and we see our own worldly troubles as the most crucial. We think our own problems need to be the first to be solved. That is not a bad thing, bringing up issues is how they get solved. What is bad is how we approach other people who disagree with us.
Agree to disagree so that we can all get along. We millennials should not take someone's opinion as a personal offense to us, especially if we saw it on the internet. We didn't put our opinion out there to personally offend others. We did it because we have our own morals and our own views and we want them to be heard. We want others to see a possible solution so it may be considered. So what if it isn't how we think the problem should be solved? That is what voting is for. That is what democracy is, the majority opinion wins and sometimes we just have to agree to disagree.
The Women's March, gun control, police brutality, politics, religion, agree to disagree.
