9 Less Touristy Places To Visit In New York

New York City- a popular destination for tourists. It's always fun to visit the city and walk around Times Square, Rockefeller Center, or simply spend a day relaxing in Central Park. Personally, my favorite thing to do is recreate scenes from Gossip Girl by spending the day on the Upper East Side, taking pictures on the steps of the MET, or going into fancy hotel bathrooms and pretending I could actually afford to stay there (or maybe that’s just something I do).

There are endless other activities for all ages in NYC! Here are 9 things to do in New York for a fun filled day! (Disclaimer: You probably are not going to be able to do it all in one day, so take your time and enjoy whatever you choose to do!)

1. Emmett’s Pizza

Yes, New York style pizza is the bomb, but if you're in the mood for some deep dish pizza, the Chicago native owners will hook you up. Check it out here.

2. The High Line

There are various locations to enter that have different activities. Go to their website to find out what's going on when you go.

3. Fort Tryon Park

If you love nature and scenic views, this is where you want to go. Check it out here.

4. South Street Seaport

Although it is still being renovated after hurricane Sandy, there is a lot to do at the South Street Seaport. Some activities include shopping, eating, and going to a tkts booth for cheap Broadway tickets with almost no line!

5. The Brooklyn Bridge

From the South Street Seaport, it’s easy to get to the bridge. The walk is very scenic and my personal favorite thing to do. You can bike, walk, or run. You walk straight into Brooklyn which brings me to #6.

6. DUMBO, Brooklyn

Once you cross the bridge, you are pretty much in DUMBO. DUMBO stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. Home to amazing Brooklyn pizza, shopping, The Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory , famous cobblestone streets, and Dan Humphrey from Gossip Girl, DUMBO will keep you busy for an entire day (and more).

7. 5 Pointz

Known as "Graffiti Mecca," 5 Pointz is an outdoor art exhibit where spray artists from around the globe bring their visions to life on a 200,000-square-foot factory building.

8. UCB Theater

Located in both Chelsea, NY and East Village, NY, the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater is an inexpensive improv comedy house. UCB used to be home to celebrities such as Amy Poehler and other SNL favorites.

9. Culture Espresso

No day is complete without a cup of good coffee… actually no day can even start without a cup of good coffee. Opened in 2009, this shop will not only give you your coffee fix for the day, but will also satisfy your sweet tooth with their baked goods.

So, grab your friends and family or spend the day on your own and explore the hidden gems of New York!

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
