The Left's Gun Obsession

The Left wants your guns, and won't take no for an answer.

In light of the heightened number of recent shootings and mass killings, the Left's outcry for the ban of guns has only grown stronger. Many of them demand gun reform, but only politically. If you study and watch closely they don't actually want to do anything about gun reform, because every mass killing and shooting fits perfectly into their narrative. They want these things to happen so they can get to their ultimate goal, which is total control of your life.

No, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I'm also not close-minded. In the late 1700s, there was this little thing you might have heard of; it's called the American Revolution. It was the final breaking point, the final war against a tyrannical government trying to run every person's lives whether they liked it or not. I am not naive enough to think that a tyrannical government will never rise again.

One of my favorite professors often states, "History never repeats, but it often rhymes." This statement rings more true every day of our lives. We're seeing parallels drawn to the past in different forms of atrocities. Abortion is our holocaust, racial tensions are our civil war, the call to ban guns is our fight with England. We're fighting against a tyrannical government that wants to run us. Something is often misunderstood, and it's that the Left actually doesn't care about the things that happen unless it benefits them. They cry that if the shooter in Orlando wouldn't have had an assault weapon he wouldn't have killed so many people. They say it's the gun's fault. The statement that he might not have killed so many people may or may not be true, but let's not forget something else. Criminals will get guns whether or not they are banned; that is why they are criminals. The terrorist in Orlando was on an FBI watch list for years and was still able to buy a weapon, which means the only way to efficiently stop these shootings are to ban weapons outright. They scream loudly at this issue but change when a racist kid in South Carolina goes into a church and shoots African-Americans in their place of worship. The tone changes: outlaw the rebel flag, it caused this, he's racist, he's a bigot.

The fight against the guns is quiet, because they know if they can cause more chaos it works perfectly for them. One question I've always asked is this, "If guns kill people, then why do the people get tried for murder, and not the guns?" I've seen even the best of people begin to fall into the trap that banning weapons is a good idea. They call for the banning of "assault weapons" even though those people are clueless as to what an assault weapon is (No, the AR in AR-15 doesn't stand for Assault Rifle). These people constantly insist it's the guns fault, even though a terrorist attack in France was just committed with a truck — not a weapon, a knife, a gun or a bomb--further proving a point that these attacks are about ideology, not about the weapon. So we've come to the crossroads in America. Are you going to let a tyranny run you, and take away the one thing they know is keeping you safe from their complete rule? As Dana Loesch says, "Hands off my gun."

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
