LeBron James is the king of basketball, but even a king needs a vacation. James has been the world's best basketball player for the better part of the decade, solidified by his eight straight NBA Finals appearances. After an unsuccessful campaign with the Lakers that forced the King out of the playoffs, he will finally get the summer off, something he desperately needs.
After signing with the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, many people in LA believed that James would be the missing link that would put them into the playoffs for the first time since 2013. It went completely opposite of expectations as the Lakers missed the playoffs again, the sixth year in a row. The team started the season out well, but roster tensions and injuries derailed the team and as a result, made them miss the playoffs.
While not having James in the playoffs will be weird and his presence will be for sure missed this postseason, he needs this time off. He has been to the Finals eight straight years, playing till mid-June every year. He had a great statistical year this season, but if he wants to continue to compete for championships, this break will be good for him.
Not only the fact that he has been to the Finals for so many consecutive years but he also almost single-handedly led his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, to the NBA Finals last season with no other superstar help on the roster. It was an amazing feat to accomplish, especially with the young talent he defeated last year. However, having to be the only superstar on the roster forced James to make the move to Los Angeles, and most likely wore him out just a little bit carrying an entire team/city.
James has achieved a great deal throughout his time in the NBA, multiple MVPs and championships already in his growing legacy. He has been on record saying he wants to win more championships in the great race for the NBA's GOAT between him and Michael Jordan, who has six to James' three. He has a great opportunity this offseason to rest up and prepare hard for next season when the Lakers are supposed to add a second superstar to their lineup in hopes of winning his fourth NBA championship and getting closer to the legendary status of MJ.
