That’s right, I said it. LeBron James, hate him or love him, you have to respect him. It has been six straight years that we have seen him succeed and fail. Six years, think about that, every April, May and June he has been on the television for three straight months and six straight years! Now those of you that know me personally and have heard me talk about LeBron James before, know that I am not a huge fan of his, but as the years have gone by he has started to earn a little bit of my respect. Now that does not mean he is my favorite player, but we have learned a lot from his career in the last six years. Being in the Finals for six straight years has got to be exhausting. I know I get tired of watching it but for him living it, has got to be an insane schedule. Also, don’t forget that he also medaled for the USA back in 2012, when he won his first NBA title. He is a beast but being as good as he has been has also gotten him in trouble.
For starters his nickname “King James,” having that become his nickname before he accomplishes anything in the NBA is a little too much. I think in my personal opinion this has given him a curse. Having a nickname like “King” is putting a lot of pressure on someone early on in their career. And now looking back at his 12 years in the league with only two championships under his belt, isn’t much of a king-like behavior. I mean let's face it he is one of the clutches shooters of all time and he scares the crap out of any team that he is facing when it comes down to the last few minutes of a game and he knows that he has the ability to take over a game when he wants. When you think of a king, you think of intimidation and wisdom that he gives upon other. Now don’t get me wrong he has the intimidation factor but he lacks how to give wisdom to other players.
The reason I say that he lacks on wisdom is based on his decision to “take his talents to Miami.” To me, when he made this decision publicly on television to leave his home and to make his way somewhere else, it was one of the worst moves he has ever made. He wanted to make a name for himself, he wanted to bring the ultimate prize in basketball to his home state where he grew up and because it got too hard and he wanted to be with his buddy in South Beach, he left. And not only did he leave but also his first year in Miami he makes it to the Finals but loses to another veteran team who was did everything except one thing in their career and that was win it all (meaning the Dallas Mavericks). And in a shortened year, in 2011 to 2012 season, he finally wins it because of the youth that still haunt a Thunder team even to this day.
In all of the great movies with kings involved the one thing to me that always stuck out, was the king always a loner for a while but he had a great supporting cast with him. Think about "Lord of the Rings." Before Aragorn became the king he had a great crew behind him helping him become who he was always meant to be, King Aragorn. LeBron was just given the throne without having to do anything to deserve it.
Now, I respect LeBron for having six straight years in the finals, but he will never win a championship in Cleveland until he stops worrying about the coach’s job and the general manager's job. He is taking on way too much as a player, and it’s crippling his career. The reason why he was so successful in Miami vs. Cleveland is the fact that he trusts Pat Riley in getting the right pieces to help their quest. As oppose to getting to Cleveland where they already had pieces put together for their team. It was when LeBron James left again to go back to Cleveland, the place he left originally. LeBron James is going to be a Hall-of-Famer no doubt and he is a great player. Unfortunately, all good things come to end and so might his quest for another championship.
