Making My Dreams Come True

Leaving My Family To Pursue My DREAMS
Peppy McNeil

We all have dreams and goals in life. Some of us start when we are two years old, some at 18 years old and others at an older age but whatever the age we want to full fill those dreams and goals. I work with a lot of people and there is only a few that catch my interest to elaborate life with. I love to talk about school and education so it leads me to ask questions of life goals and dreams. I noticed a co-worker that I had not yet met on a shaking hands introduction and this co-worker intrigued my interest. I was compelled to hear his story, so I introduced myself to him.

Hi I’m Moranda nice to meet you; hi I’m Peppy nice to meet you. We got to talking and his story was so fascinating to me. I wanted to write about him. I asked him if he would be interested in allowing me to write about him and he said yes. So I interviewed him and here is what he had to say about his life and making his dreams come true.

Growing up I knew I wanted to be more than an average person. I wanted to be known for something. When I started high school it made me think about what I really wanted to do with my life. I found out that I was interested in modeling and acting but my focus lens was sports. After high school I decided to put college on hold and pursue modeling, so I went to modeling school. Modeling school turned out to be a good and bad experience. My good experience I was able to find an agent and my bad experience I felt as if I wasted my money because I didn’t gain knowledge. I noticed that my modeling career wasn’t blossoming as I needed it to. With my deep passion for modeling and acting I had to make some decisions and choices to full fill my dreams.

I was born in Munster, Indiana and raised in Schererville, Indiana when my family decided to move to Indianapolis, Indiana. Not much around to grow in my career so I made the choice to move but somewhere modeling is big. I had thoughts of moving to Atlanta or Los Angeles. The decisions weren’t coming easy for me. I had a girlfriend whom I was deeply in love with and I saw my future life with her, it was really hard to think of breaking it off. I thought I could ask her to move with me and we could live together but it felt selfish; it’s my dream not hers. The ultimate decision, I broke off the relationship to pursue my dreams.

At the age of 23 I made my final decision, I quit my job. I packed what I could and whatever fit in my car and drove. I drove through six states and three different time zones, a few were the norm Illinois, Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas but the other states I had never visited to name a few New Mexico, Arizona. The drive was new but calming and interesting; it intrigued my vision and thoughts.

Finally after 30 hours on the highways, freeways and streets I arrive to my destination Los Angeles, California. In no time I found a place to live, a job to sustain my living as I pursue my modeling and acting career. I found an acting school in West Hollywood. I am currently looking for an acting agency that will get me to work. One thing I am learning being here in Los Angeles the competition is competitive. I am staying positive and I cannot wait until I get my big break. I have plans to quit my jobs being appreciative but I will be saying good-bye to the old and saying Hello to the new …Oscar’s, here I am.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
