Recently, America’s past time underwent a major change, when it eliminated the intentional walk on pitches. Alone, this change does not make a huge impact, but it continues the idea of trying to speed up baseball. That is not okay, as the game is fine the way it is.
Look, the game is slow to some people, but you could make the same argument for other sports, such as football and its endless line of commercials.
With the intentional walk, or when 4 balls are pitched outside the strike zone to avoid pitching to a batter for a myriad of reasons. During this time, a ball could escape the grasp of the catcher and become a passed ball or even the chance of a wild pitch. Now, a signal from the dugout sends the batter-runner to first base. What would happen if a manager decided to stop doing an intentional walk ?
Also, time should not influence baseball, as the Cubs took their sweet time to win the 2016 World Series, the most important event in the entire year. If the game had been on a clock this event may have never happened. There is also no garbage time in baseball, so that a team down by multiple runs can make a comeback, while they are bound by a clock in other sports.
Lastly, look forward at all of the changes in the NFL, and the game is a far cry from what it was just a decade ago. Baseball underwent some changes throughout the years, such as the DH rule. By the way, that rule should not go into the NL.
Now, if MLB wants to get rid of Joe Buck, I’m all for it
