Learning To Ride The Wave

Are you up for the challenge?

I am ridiculously impatient. It's how I've always been, through being a child carried onto my adult life. When I want something, I want it in that exact moment, without having to wait. It's one of my biggest flaws that I haven't quite mastered yet.

Recently, I went to a psychic to have a tarot card reading, which I've been doing for years and years. It's something that helps me stay in check and in tune with my life. Within minutes of me being with her, she told me all of my chakras were so out of whack, she didn't know where to start. I was looking for specific answers to things that she couldn't know for sure.

There was a lot of talk about my ex and how he still thinks of me, which made me automatically go to "Does that mean he's going to be in contact with me, or are we supposed to reconnect?" She told me it was a fifty-fifty chance, there was no way of knowing. I didn't like that answer because I am a person who likes to try and know all of the little details, which she was giving me none of.

At that point, she looked at me and said, "What's written is already written. There is absolutely nothing you can do in life that will change the way things are going to happen for you, whether it be a job or love or friendships. When you leave here, you go and you never look back."

For whatever reason, that hit me. I can't change the future. I don't even know what my future looks like, no one does. But, it made me think that you can't go through life and believe that if you do things in a particular manner, they will end up a certain way. Because that's not how it works. Now, I'm not saying don't work hard towards something, because if it's meant to be you'll just be successful because that's the way your story was written. I'm saying don't go through life thinking that certain things are going to happen to you because of the steps you have taken.

We all have to, as my mom says, ride the wave. There's going to be ups, there's going to be downs. We have no control of the tides, as they are constantly changing. It's how you ride the wave that will determine your outcome of success.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
