Learning to Grow From Life's Drawbacks

Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they’re supposed to help you discover who you are. -Bernice Johnson Reagon

Learning to Grow From Life's Drawbacks

Everyone you meet has their own story to tell. Throughout our lives, we are given obstacles and drawbacks that we must overcome. Sometimes these obstacles are small and easy to overcome... But sometimes they take a lot of work and strength.

There are many times where we are pushed to our breaking point. We are faced with a challenge that we must conquer, and it can take a lot out of you. It's a lot easier than people make it out to be to lose sight of who you are while you're dealing with a bigger issue in your life. Sometimes you can be pushed to the point where you no longer know who you are or what you want to achieve anymore. You may even feel as though you don't want to bother continuing to pursue your goals, simply because you feel like there is no point.

I for one have had many drawbacks arise throughout my life that held me back from the growth I needed. Time and time again I found myself allowing my issues to overpower my strength. Instead of using what I was dealing with as a source of growth, I let them all crush me.

It's taken me many years and many more drawbacks in my life to realize that the struggles we are dealt with are given to us because we need them. We need to take these struggles and use them to our advantage. You can easily just sit back and allow the negatives in life to shadow anything good... OR you can take those negatives, grow from them, and turn the experience into a positive.

The things we go through are what help us become who we need to be. Without trials, we would never be able to appreciate the good in life.

The best thing I've come to learn is that you can obtain something positive from any negative situation if you open your mind and allow yourself to grow from it.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
