Over the last few semesters at college, I have learned how to best spend my time, who to spend it with, and how. It took some time to get it right, and I am still working on it. But there have been many things I have gone through and lessons I have learned to get myself where I am now.
The first thing that I have realized really helps me stay organized and on top of things at school is surrounding myself with great people who share similar beliefs and goals as I do.
When you surround yourself with people like this, who want the best for you, you will always be motivated to do what is best for yourself and spend your time in the greatest way possible. When I started surrounding myself with friends who genuinely care about me and want the best for me, I started doing what I wanted to do and making better decisions when it came to my time.
Another thing I learned that helps me to stay on track is keeping in mind what I came to Ohio State for and what I want out of this experience.
In the end, I came here to get an amazing degree through an awesome program that will help advance me to the next steps in my career goal. I have been able to take on multiple internships that are providing me with incredible opportunities I otherwise would not have had if I hadn't learned how to best spend my time and do what is best for myself.
While it can be hard to focus on what is really important, it is essential to keep your end goal in mind. Otherwise, it is easy to get off track and set other things in your life as priorities--things that don't really belong at the top.
It all starts with realizing you have to be a little bit selfish because this is the time. This is the time where what we choose to do for ourselves and with our time can alter our course. So we have to do our best to set ourselves up for the best.
