Learning To Accept People At Face Value

I'll never ever forget the quote "not everyone in this world is going to have the same heart as you." I couldn't even tell you where I heard it or who I heard it from or how old I was at the time; but to this day, all I know is that those words really did have a profound impact on me.

Because it's true. Not everyone in this world is going to have the same heart as you. Nor will they have the same intentions or values or likes or dislikes, even.

And you can't expect people to. Because some people in this world won't be as affectionate as you are. And others won't be as thoughtful. Maybe you would move mountains for your best friend, but you know in your heart of hearts that she would never do the same for you.

And it's normal to feel let down every once in a while. Because it's human nature to have high expectations. And it's human nature to think that people will react the same, they will give as much, they will think the things and feel the ways that we feel.

But most of the time they don't and they won't. And, at times, that's a sobering realization. Maybe you've given your absolute everything to a friendship, just to realize that the other person is just not willing to meet you half way. Or maybe he or she has fallen short one too many times and it's made you question and second guess everything.

And you're bound to have felt this way before, and you'll probably feel this way at some point again.

But if you stop and really recognize that "not everyone in this world is going to have the same heart as you," you will be SO much better off. If you learn to accept people at face value, you will avoid so much let down when people don't quite measure up.

Because the truth is, not everyone is going to. And rather than getting yourself worked up time and time again, just accept the people in your life exactly as they are. Because the only person who ends up getting let down when he or she falls short is you.

Recognize that you won't get the same things out of all of your relationships- maybe you know you can always count on one person for a good time and another for a good heart-to-heart. In a perfect world, all of our relationships would be enough always and we would all give and take the same and we would all devote the same amount of time and energy on one another. But, unfortunately, it's just not like that.

The other day one of my best friends sent me a quote that struck me the exact same way the other quote did. And so I will leave you with this, "When you are a 10-gallon person, you want love on a 10-gallon level. But if you fool around and hook up with a pint person, then they could be giving you all they have, sincerely giving you everything, but it does't fill you up because you're bigger than that."

Accept that some people in your life -- friends, family members, partners, whatever it be -- will be 10-gallon people and others might be pints. Accept people as they are.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
