Learning Through the Hardships

Learning Through the Hardships

Life is beautiful and filled with great things, but it can be tough sometimes.

Hardships come into our weeks with little to no warning, and the storm they bring with them can completely crush us. Sometimes we feel like we can barely keep our heads above the water long enough to take in a deep breath, but in reality, even though we feel like we are drowning, our heads are still going above the water. We are still able to take a breath even if for now it’s just a gasp for air, but even when we are facing the storm, we can learn so much from the times our life is definitely not going the way we thought it would.

It’s in these times that I’ve learned to lean on God more than ever. It’s in these times that I learned what it’s like to be like David in Psalms letting all of his emotions become completely transparent to the Lord. David allowed himself to be open and honest with God, whether he was angry or sad or anywhere else on the emotion scale. In Psalm 18:6 David cried, “In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.” He did not hold back.

It’s ok to not hold back when it comes to showing God how you feel. I mean believe it or not He already knows what you’re going through in life, so it’s our chance to be honest and let those emotions show. So cry and scream and let everything out that you’ve been holding in for so long. You don’t have to be brave in front of our Savior. You can fall into his arms and show your fear and sadness and anything else those hardships left you to feel.

We’ve all had hardships come into our life. Whether they were big or small, no one is immune to something not going right. Life isn’t always filled with happiness, yet when we rest and abide in the Lord after being ever so open about our feelings, that is when we can find joy and peace even in the times where no one would ever think joy or peace could be found. It is when you can find hope in even the most hopeless looking of situations. Abide in the Lord and finally take that deep breath. Let your heavy burdens fall into His grasp and allow yourself to become transparent and open to His great love. For God’s love is far more powerful and all-consuming than anything we could ever imagine.

Psalm 16: check it out to find your deep breath, so you don’t have to keep gasping for air.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
