Learning To Knit Has Helped Me Manage Stress Better

Knitting is such a stress reliever for me! Wish I would have learned this a long time ago!

Recently I learned how to knit Continental style, and I have been loving every minute of it! I pull out my supplies and pull up Netflix. I knit and watch a show, it is the most relaxing thing ever. Laughing to whatever show I am watching, but paying attention to what I am knitting. Doing projects at a beginner level is the perfect amount of focus I need when wanting to relax. When watching Netflix, I just feel like I'm sitting there. I'm enjoying the show, but it just doesn't feel like I can relax. I have a desire to play on my phone, or fiddle with something. By introducing knitting, it gives me the right amount of focus I need while enjoying my entertainment. It is not as in depth and stressful like the amount of focus being a student requires.

Within the first few days, I made a really nice rug! A handful of snow days canceling classes definitely gave me lots of time to get a head start on my project.

While I am neither a professional at knitting or crocheting, I have found that I enjoy knitting much more. Knitting just seems more involved, I don't know why I feel like that. When doing crochet, after a few rows, I find myself growing bored with it and put it down. Also, keeping the correct tension as your knitting seems to be much easier as compared to crocheting. Before learning, I never knew there was two different types of knitting, Continental Knitting, and American Knitting. Check out this YouTube video that explains the differences. Continental Knitting vs. American Knitting

What I need to work on is learning the lingo of knitting, I don't understand what different abbreviations or words mean. I also need to learn how to purl.I'm not exactly sure what purling does differently to the pattern, but I'm going to find out soon!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
