For around two weeks now my family has been fostering four adorable kittens. None of us knew exactly what were were supposed to do while fostering kittens, but with some help from the shelter and drawing on our experience with cats, we've made it work well.
I mention this primarily because of the reason we began fostering the kittens in the first place. An animal shelter nearby us sent out an ad in the newspaper saying that their shelter was filled to bursting with kittens after someone dropped off a massive amount of them. We decided to help out because we love cats and nobody wants to see cats put down because there isn't any space for them.
By the time we arrived later that day, an additional 14 kittens had been given to the shelter...
We did as much as we could considering the complications with our fully grown cats at home, but there were so many more kittens at the shelter that it hurt to only take a litter of four. I honestly had no idea how many cats there were at these shelters, or at least I had never stopped to consider it.
Seeing all those kittens at the shelter made me want to speak up, even if only in a small way. That's why I feel it is very important to encourage all of you to go to shelters and adopt cats, kittens, dogs, or puppies(even though they aren't the focus there were a lot of them at the shelter as well). Even if you can only adopt one, that helps not only the shelter, but also saves the life of an animal.
If you're on the fence about it, I'll leave off with what we were told when we started fostering: Without your help these kittens would have an almost zero percent chance of surviving, with you, they have a real chance.
Thank you for reading and go adopt a beautiful pet!
